Debbie Hadley (Geraldine Granger)

Debbie Hadley
(Geraldine Granger)

Debbie studied drama at De Montfort University, and has performed Shakespeare to Berkoff, charity concerts to professional cabaret, from the Edinburgh Fringe to The West End.

With Small Pond, co-founded with Mr Baxendale, Debs has performed in a variety of shows, notably the thought-provoking and controversial "Vagina Monologues".

She has also taken roles in many Studio Theatre productions, most recently the title role in "Hello Dolly!".

Debs is married to Glen, a sound, lighting and AV engineer & designer, has two insane cats and a daughter who shares her mother's love of shoes and feather boas!

Geraldine is an hilarious role to play, and Debs has found many similarities between herself and the Vicar, namely "a bob cut and a magnificent bosom", and an appreciation of the chocolatier.

Elena Wright (Alice Tinker)
Elena Wright
(Alice Tinker)

Having been taunted for being like Alice for years by friends and family, Elena is thrilled to finally put her blondeness to good use!

Elena studied Performing Arts and has consequently performed in a variety of shows and venues.

Says Elena, "Taking all of this into account, I think Dibley is one of the most exciting productions I have been involved in. I absolutely love Alice and I am really enjoying playing her."

(Elena has to be the most modest member of the cast.)

Ted Turner (David Horton)
Ted Turner
(David Horton)

Ted first became hooked on theatre in 1936 when, at the age of eight, he walked on stage at The Grand Theatre, Croydon to sing a boy soprano solo.

In the interim there is little Ted has not tackled through Army Concert Parties (1940s), classical drama (Tony Lumpkin in "She Stoops to Conquer"), rep theatre, touring variety shows, pantomime (not least Pam Beecham's last great production of "Jack and the Beanstalk" at the then very new Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe) and more recently Col. Kurt von Strohm in "'Allo 'Allo"; Col. Hugh Pickering in "My Fair Lady"; a rumbustuous Yorkshire businessman in the premiere of Robert Zarywacz's "NETWORKNOTWORK" and, not least, several guest appearances with "Think Floyd", the class tribute band Pink Floyd – the world-famous rock group! And summer shows galore!

Now, Ted is thrilled and delighted to be playing yet another lead character role as David Horton MBE, chairman of the Dibley Parish Council in "The Vicar of Dibley". Again, a premiere amateur production under the able direction of good friend and fellow performer Lee Baxendale.

Robert Zarywacz (Frank Pickle)
Robert Zarywacz
(Frank Pickle)

With a degree in English Literature and Latin, it's little surprise that Robert's career and leisure interests both focus on writing. And while epic poetry remains an interest, Robert always looks for humour in even the most serious works of literature.

Coming to performance as an adult and having played some leading roles in productions in Berkshire in the early 1990s, Robert has quickly immersed himself in the tremendously fertile theatrical scene in North Devon with Small Pond Productions and Studio Theatre. He has appeared in some 14 productions in three years, been introduced to stage management, directed and produced his own play, "NETWORKNOTWORK", and written assorted sketches and other material, including the pilot episode of a radio comedy. He has also recently acted in "Freaked Out", a short film due to be screened on Propeller TV.

Robert's favourite roles include Douglas in "Man of the Moment", Oliver Goldsmith in "A Laughing Matter", Private Pike in "Dad's Army", Jeffery Fairbrother in "Hi!-de-Hi!" and Leo Bloom in a segment from "The Producers".

For Robert, the enjoyment of playing characters such as Frank Pickle is in knowing that the more serious the portrayal, the funnier it is for the audience.

Tony Scarratt (Owen Newitt)
Tony Scarratt
(Owen Newitt)

Tony is thrilled to be in the cast of "The Vicar of Dibley" as it gives him the opportunity to perform a character in a much loved comedy.

In the past, Tony has been involved in musicals, variety shows and sung with Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir.

"Having performed some comedy sketches I have discovered the joy of making people laugh," says Tony.

"And after all the rehearsing and Lee’s direction (be afraid, be very afraid!), Dibley has been a wonderful experience for me. After all, comedy is a serious business."

Mike Bennett (Jim Trott)
Mike Bennett
(Jim Trott)

Before moving to the seaside five years ago, Mike spent many years writing and directing panto and music hall and appearing in many of the big Musicals in the Thames Valley.

Since then he has taken on lots of musical andcomedy roles at the Landmark with Studio Theatre (Private Godfrey in "Dad's Army" and Fred Quilley in "Hi-de-Hi!") and appeared in Small Pond’s Summer Shows (as the token "Old Fart").

He is looking forward to Dibley. Jim Trott was a part he couldn’t say yes, yes, yes – no to.

Laurence Butler (Hugo Horton)
Laurence Butler
(Hugo Horton)

Laurence has recently played a multitude of lead roles in this year’s summer extravaganza "Showtime" written and directed by Lee Baxendale.

Laurence’s previous singing and acting collaboration with Lee has involved him performing such diverse roles as the Duke of Kingston in "A Laughing Matter", Cornelius in "Hello Dolly!" and numerous dramas, musicals and comedies with Small Pond and Studio Theatre.

Most noticeably, he has become a regular face in the successful "Magic" summer spectaculars at the Landmark Theatre.

Laurence has also written and directed various shows both here in North Devon and Oxford.

Laurence says, “Everyone Loves the Vicar of Dibley and I was thrilled to be asked to play Hugo in this premiere."

Pamela Beecham (Letitia Cropley)
Pamela Beecham
(Letitia Cropley)

After twelve years as a professional dancer, including "Billy Cotton's TV Variety" as a Tiller girl, Pamela's amateur career began in Ilfracombe writing and producing no less than sixteen pantomimes for the Ilfracombe Pantomime Society, of which she was also the founder. Pamela also spent seven years choreographing for Barnstaple Musical Comedy Society.

She has choreographed and co-produced many shows for Studio Theatre, including "My Fair Lady" and "Hello Dolly!". As well as producing, Pamela has also performed on many occasions, taking lead roles in "Dad's Army", "Steaming", "Hi!-de-Hi!" and, memorably, as the wicked stepmother in "Wonderful Christmastime".

Lee Baxendale (director of The Vicar of Dibley)
Lee Baxendale
(director)

Having been performing and producing shows in the North Devon area for 15 years, doing everything from producing to prompting, Lee has been part of 150 productions, Dibley being number 151!

Lee started performing with Studio Theatre, ATTCo and Panto Society and has enjoyed performing in many of their shows over the last decade and a half.

In 1999, Lee produced his first musical show working with his best friend, Richard Lancaster, to produce the original production of "Fifty Years of Music". From there he went on to create Small pond Productions alongside Debbie Hadley and has been producing with them since 2001.

Since then Lee has moved more into directing but still performs. Most Recently Lee has performed as Feste In "Twelfth Night", Spike in "Hi-de-Hi!", Walker in "Dad’s Army" and Mr Shanks in "Habeas Corpus", all with Studio Theatre for whom he also directed two of their three summer seasons shows alongside directing Small Pond’s "Summer Show".

Lee studied Theatre and Drama studies at Roehampton University and now teaches Musical Theatre and Performing Arts at North Devon College.

Once Dibley is ‘defrocked’, he will go straight into preparation for Small Pond and Studio Theatre’s first Collaboration: "Me and My Girl" to be performed at the Landmark Theatre in October 2008.
